A married lady was expecting a birthday gift from her husband. For many months she had admired a beautiful diamond ring in a showroom, and knowing her husband could afford it, she told him that was all she wanted.

As her birthday approached, this lady awaited signs that her husband had purchased the diamond ring. Finally, on the morning of her birthday, her husband called her into his study room. Her husband told her how proud he was to have such a good wife, and told her how much he loved her. He handed her a beautiful wrapped gift box. Curious, the wife opened the box and found a lovely, leather-bound Bible, with the wife's name embossed in gold.
Angrily, she raised her voice to her husband and said, "With all your money you give me a Bible? and stormed out of the house, leaving her husband.

Many years passed and the lady was very successful in business.. She managed to settle for a more beautiful house and a wonderful family, but realized her ex-husband was very old, and thought perhaps she should go to visit him. She had not seen him for many years. But before she could make arrangements, she received a telegram telling her that her ex-husband had passed away, and willed all of his possessions to her. She needed to come back immediately and take care of things.

When she arrived at her ex-husband's house, sudden sadness and regret filled her heart. She began to search through her ex-husband's important papers and saw the still new Bible, just as she had left it years before.

With tears, she opened the Bible and began to turn the pages. Her ex-husband had carefully underlined a verse, Matt 7:11, "And if you, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Heavenly Father, who is in heaven, give to those who ask Him?"

As she read those words, a tiny package dropped from the back of the Bible. It had a diamond ring, with her name engraved on it -- the same diamond ring which she saw at the showroom. On the tag was the date of her birth, and the words...'LUV U ALWAYS'...

How many times do we miss God's blessings, because they are not packaged as we expected?

hand-made pakwaans and sweets and moms seeking
our help while preparing them ...When Maths teachers were
not worried of our Mummies and papas while slapping/beating us ..
When we were exchanging comics and stamps and
Chacha-Chaudaris & Billus were our heroes ..
When we were in Nanihaals every summer and loved
flying kites and plucking and
eating unripe mangoes and leechies ..
When one movie every Sunday evening on television was more
than asked for and 'ek do teen chaar' and 'Rajani' inspired us ..
When 50 paisa meant at least 10 toffees ...
When left over pages of the last years notebooks were used for rough
work or even fair work ...When 'Chelpark' and 'Natraaj' were
encouraged against 'Reynolds & family' ...
When the first rain meant getting drenched and playing in water and
mud and making 'kaagaj ki kishtis' ... When there were no
phones to tell friends that we will be at their homes
at six in the evening ..
When our parents always had 15 paise blue colored 'Antardesis' and
5 paise machli wale stamps at home ...
When we remembered tens of jokes and were not finding 'ice-cream &
papa' type jokes foolish enough to stop us from laughing ...
When we were not seeing patakhes on Diwalis and gulaalson
Holis as air and noise polluting or allergic agents ...
The list can be endless ...On the serious note I would like
to summarize with ...
When we were using our hearts more than our brains,
even for scientifically brainy activities like 'thinking' and 'deciding' ..
When we were crying and laughing more often,
more openly and more sincerely ..
When we were enjoying our present more than worrying about our future ..
When being emotional was not synonymous to being weak ...
When sharing worries and happiness didn't mean getting
vulnerable to the listener .. When blacks and whites were
the favorite colors instead of greys ...
When journeys also were important and not just the destinations ...
When life was a passenger's sleeper giving enough time and
opportunity to enjoy the sceneries
from its open and transparent glass windows instead of some
super fast's second ac with its curtained, closed and dark windows ...

oh! the last 20 years has gone so sooner,
The great college days, I started remembering,
Seems like only yesterday I finished post graduation.

Seeing my class mates, after 20 years,

Saw the girl, whom once I thought as my life,

learned she is happy, that made me smile.

We started teasing him together,
About what all he did to-get-her,

Project reviews to campus interviews,
Nicknames to last bench games,
Cultural rehearsals to love proposals,
Short term crushes to class room blushes.

Everything was fresh in our mind,
Wished life could rewind,
Laughed, played and rejoiced,
Once again we became girls and boys.

Chatting and laughing, we all were in elation,
Till the painful moment of separation,
It was time to part,
returned with a heavy heart.

Today life is full of commitments,
And too many worries,

A Year Passed By as a Software Engineer

I would like to express my transition from real freedom to assumed freedom. I am here talking about my transition from my college to the booming IT industry. I would like to pour my one year experience of the so called glamorous and fun filled IT industry.

We used to wander those spacious heat filled open grounds and dirty class rooms with just 50Rs. in pocket and plan the whole week with that budget. But now we wander along the well cleaned, fully air-conditioned corridors with about five to six credit cards in our pocket planning where to swipe the cards. Credit cards eagerly waiting to eat next month's salary. I can't believe that it was just one year before that the 50Rs. seemed to be lacks now, lacks seems to be nothing.

College canteen, Tea shops were the favorite hot spots where we spent hours together, having a hearty chat with our buddies forgetting the whole world. But now Cafe Day, Quickies, Baristas have taken those places. What a coffee cost 2.5Rs last year has now gone up to 50Rs a cup. Those precious days where we used to laugh for nothing, while chatting or while playing or even when you fail in your paper because you have got 30 marks for a empty paper. But now you rarely smile except the smile for the forward you just received or the smile to your PM to impress him.

Hate and Ego were the words you haven't heard in those days. You smash or hit your friend for some reason and the next moment you walk along him with hands on his shoulders. But now you doesn't like the guy sitting beside you because he's getting a salary 10k greater that you or he's always being appreciated by your PM. True friends are hard to find here

In college if some one is talking badly about your college you can find your blood boiling inside even though you don't like your principal. But here loyalty is the lost word; whenever someone is talking badly about your company you join them to criticize your company. You join the company with the resignation day in the mind, is this loyalty.

You have seen the late nights only on the eve of the exam, where you rely on your friend to wake him/ her at night 1 or 2. And how we can forget those last minute tensions in exam, you remember that only just before entering the exam you find that you have forgotten to revise an important question that your friend suggested that it will surely appear on this exam. You rush back and flip those Xeroxed pages with tension. But today you work at least 2 days a week till 1 or 2 in the night to deliver something to your unknown client who is at US or UK. You are aimlessly typing at the useless word document that your PM asked you to finish with his tailor made smile. Loads of tension with calls from home, with your eye lids eager to kiss each other and you promise them to allow it a little later, cursing Bill Gates for inventing MSWord.

It seems I have been in my own desert where I have realized that I am moving from the warmth of the Oasis to chase a mirage. A mirage that promises a lot of thing, but still it's just a mirage. When I turn back I can find thousands chasing that mirage with an ID card around their neck.

to McDonald's and buy us both a Happy Meal so you can

born and how much I love you.

splash in the tub and not get angry.

stay up late while we sit on the porch and count all the stars.

Just for this evening, I will snuggle

beside you for hours, and miss my favourite TV shows.

Just for this evening when I run my

finger through your hair as you pray, I will simply be

grateful that God has given me the greatest gift ever given.

I will think about the mothers and

fathers who are searching for their missing children, the

mothers and fathers who are visiting their children's

graves instead of their bedrooms. The mothers

and fathers who are in hospital rooms

watching their children suffer senselessly and screaming

inside that little body

And when I kiss you goodnight I will hold

you a little tighter, a little longer. It is then,

that I will thank God for you, and ask him for

nothing, except one more day..............

I was waiting for my love ...
"30 minutes late!!", my brain shouted at me, "Last time you were 5 mins late and si had literally gobbled u up ... remember??"

"Yeah yeah", I said to my brain, "You know her... all moody and stuff..... oh there she is"

"Scold her OK?", my brain adviced.

"OK I will try"

Sweet Sheetal comes with the cutest smile and says "Im sorry honey .. I was shopping for shoes .. totally forgot about you"

"What if you had said that line buddy?", shouted my brain ... "she would have had a nervous breakdown"

I ignored my brain .. "Its OK honey .. its only half an hour . no problem"

She smiled once again .. held my hand and asked "Hope you remember what occasion is today"

"OMG!!!", thought I ....

"Brain ... search database for reminders, anniversaries, silly anniversaries, birthdays and birthdays of people I dont care about"

Brain got into action ... I started delegating work to different parts .. parallel processing .. multiple search .......... complete memory scan.

Sheetal stared at me .... "Hello!! u have been staring at me for 2 mins now ... u OK?"

"Huh!!!", I said, "Oh ... nothing's wrong .. was lost in thought"

"No records found", said the brain ...

"Damn!!”, I thought

"So what say ... how do we celebrate the day?", she asked.

I was all confused ... "Ask her ...dumbo?". said the brain

"OK OK ...stop pushing me"

"Honey .. U know my lousy memory .. I guess I cant recall what today is"

"WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!", she shouted ... and started crying.

"How could you forget!! ..... its my doggy's birthday"

"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

A moment of silence.

My entire brain staff was laughing at me.

I was dumbfounded. "What the hell am I supposed to do know?", I asked my brain.

"Damage control sequence initialized ... dont worry our specialist will comeback with the perfect line to make everything all right"

"Better do it fast ..brainy"

The brain was working at 90% capacity .... gathering and analyzing all data on 'How to handle women?'

Finally an answer was computed and communicated to Me..

I looked up to her, and said "Of Course I remember your doggy's bday .. how can I forget that sweet mutt's special day"

She looked up with utter surprise ...
"HUH!!!!!!! ....... Doggy is the name of my cat you jerk"

She stood up angrily and left.

I and my brain were left there clueless

There was a contest to write a fictional story for 500 words max and which should start with the line "On a dark and foggy night, a small figure lay huddled on the railway tracks leading to the Bangalore station"

Hope you are now thinking that its a situational story…. Uhhh…???

This is the Award Winning Story..

On a dark and foggy night, a small figure lay huddled on the railway tracks leading to the Bangalore station. At once I was held back to see someone in that position during midnight with no one around.

With curiosity taking the front seat, I went near the body and tried to investigate it. There was blood all over the body which was lying face down. It seemed that a ruthless blow by the last train could have caused the end of this body which seemed to be that of a guy of around my age.

Amidst the gory blood flow, I could see a folded white envelope which was fluttering in the midnight wind. Carefully I took the blood stained envelope and was surprised to see the phrase "appraisal letter" on it. With curiosity rising every moment, I wasted no time in opening the envelope to see if I can find some details about the dead guy. The tag around the body's neck and the jazzy appraisal cover gave me the hint that he might be a software engineer.

I opened the envelope to find a shining paper on which the appraisal details where typed in flying colours. Thunders broke into my ears and lightening struck my heart when I saw the appraisal amount of the dead guy!!!!! My God, it was not even, as much as the cost of the letter on which the appraisal details were printed....

My heart poured out for the guy and huge calls were heard inside my mind saying "no wonder, this guy died such a miserable death"... As a fellow worker in the same industry, I thought I should mourn for him for the sake of respect and stood there with a heavy heart thinking of the shock that he would have experienced when his manager had placed the appraisal letter in his hand.

I am sure his heart would have stopped and eyes would have gone blank for few seconds looking at the near to nothing increment in his salary.

While I mourned for him, for a second my hands froze to see the employee's name in the appraisal letter... hey, what a strange co-incidence, this guy's name is same as mine, including the initials. This was interesting. With some mental strength, I turned the body upside down and found myself fainted for a second. The guy not only had my name, but also looked exactly like me. Same looks, same built, same name.... it was me who was dead there!!!!!!!!

While I was lost in that shock, I felt someone patting on my shoulders. My heart stopped completely, I could not breathe and sprung in fear to see who was behind......... splash!!! Went the glass of water on my laptop screen as I came out of my wild dream to see my manager standing behind my chair patting on my shoulder saying, "wake up man. Come to meeting room number two. I have your appraisal letter ready..!!"
